Selangor Darul Ehsan

The heartland of the nation, Selangor is a gateway to Malaysia. A strategic location to all major routes. It is a home for Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA) and Port Klang, the largest port in Malaysia. Once, it was a thick lush of green forest. A dwelling place for the aborigines, the Senoi. Since progressive development, the tribe has been relocated to better dwelling areas, in Gombak and Pulau Carey. Here, they are provided with better amenities and schooling.They adapted to the modern life styles, working in factories and in the nearby estates.

The capital of Selangor, Shah Alam is a district where the throne resides. The Malays as major society play important role in contributing to the city economic development. The Blue Mosque, The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is reputedly one of the most stunning structures in the country. A symbol to the Islamic City. The University Mara Institute of Technology is the education centre shaping the younger generations for future development.

History lovers will be enchanted by Selangor’s colourful past. Recapture the glorious days of its tin mining industry and the splendour of its royal household. The Bugis, the true founder of the state fled to this new land for a better settlement. Known for their naval prowess, their war skills and courage, they rose to prominence hence established the present Sultanate of Selangor. The Melawati Hill, the Bandar Palace in Kuala Selangor remarked their strong and powerful spirits where the ruling of the state began.

Tin ore was found abundance in the 1820’s, marking the Chinese coolies’ immigrants to the state extracting the tin in Ampang. A Royalty who played an important role in the early history of Klang, Raja Abdullah bin Raja Jaafar controlled the Klang district mining. His palace ‘Gedung Raja Abdullah ‘was also a storage for tins, food and weapons. The palace is presently converted to Tin Museum. During the English tenure, the rubber plantations were introduced. The Indians were brought in as workers.

Selangor economy blossoms to the wealthiest from these products making it the richest state in Malaysia. With fascinating diversity of Malays, Chinese and Indians and various other ethnic groups, living in harmony whilst preserving each community culture and traditions. Selangor is a destination of colourful festivals and historical attractions.
